“TAMC, the City of King, and Sol Treasures Hosts ‘King City Community Art Walk’ on Thursday, October 15, 2026”

Friday, October 9, 2026

MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC), in partnership with the City of King and Sol Treasures, is hosting a community art walk to celebrate new sidewalk art marking safe routes to schools in King City. The art walk will begin at 4:30pm, Thursday, October 15, 2026, in front of the King City Pools, 401 Division St, King City. The artwork is funded through a state Active Transportation Program grant and Measure X, and is part of TAMC’s Safe Routes to School program.

In Spring 2026, the Transportation Agency released a call for art geared toward local Elementary School, Middle School, High School/College, Adult Amateur Artist (18+), and Professional Artists. A community steering committee created community ballots with the artwork that best met the criteria in the call for art, and then the greater community had a chance to vote on their favorite artwork.

Seven professional sidewalk art murals are now installed on the sidewalks marking safe routes to Santa Lucia Elementary School and Del Rey Elementary School, as well as youth destinations such as the King City Recreation Department, San Antonio Skate Park, and the King City Library. Smaller artwork from the remaining artist categories will be installed along the safe routes to Santa Lucia and Del Rey Elementary Schools in Spring 2027.

The art walk begins with an introduction in front of the King City Pools at 4:30pm. The walking group will then continue the route to all seven art locations for a walk of approximately 2.4 miles. The walk will end at San Antonio Skate Park before 6:30pm with a closing ceremony and giveaway prizes. The artwork will be viewed in the following order, and attendees are welcome to join along the walking route:
