TAMC CONE ZONE REPORT

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, October 5 through Saturday, October 11 – newest information is in bold text. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.   

Highway 1: San Luis Obispo County Line – Silver Spur Creek: October 9

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the San Luis Obispo County Line and Silver Spur Creek  for work along shoulder of the highway from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm. Travelers may encounter a 15-minute delay.

Highway 1: Turnout South of Vicente Creek – Turnout South of Lime Creek:  Long – Term 

There will be full closure of northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the turnout south of Vicente Creek and the turnout south of Lime Creek due to emergency repair work.

Highway 1: Little Sur River Bridge – Hurricane Point: October 5 – October 11

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the Little Sur River Bridge and Hurricane Point  for emergency repair work from 7 am to 7 pm.

Highway 1: Big Sur Station (Multi Agency) – Garrapata Creek Bridge: October 6 & October 9

A moving lane closure will occur along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the Big  Sur Station (multi agency) and Garrapata Creek Bridge for vegetation spraying  work from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter a 15-minute delay.

Highway 1: Turnout South of Lime Creek – Big Sur Station (Multi Agency): October 7 – October 8

A moving lane closure will occur along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the turnout south of Lime Creek and the Big  Sur Station (multi agency) for vegetation spraying  work from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter a 15-minute delay.

Highway 1: Rocky Creek Viaduct – Rocky Creek Bridge: October 6 – October 10

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the Rocky Creek Viaduct and Rocky Creek Bridge for miscellaneous work from 6 am to 4 pm. Travelers may encounter 15-minute delays.

Highway 1: JSO Mud Creek – Gorda: October 10

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between JSO Mud Creek and Gorda  for  work along shoulder of the highway from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm. Travelers may encounter a 15-minute delay.

Highway 1: Point Lobos St. Reserve – North of Riley Ranch Road: October  6 – October 8

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the Point Lobos State Reserve and north of Riley Ranch Road for vegetation control work from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Travelers may encounter a 15-minute delay.

Highway 1: Peter Pan Road – Spindrift Road (North): October 6

One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between Peter Pan Road and Spindrift Road (north) for utility work from 9 a to 3 pm.

Highway 1: Atherton Drive – Oliver Road: October 5 – October 10

There will be alternating lane closures along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between Atherton Drive and Oliver Road for gas line work along the right shoulder from 8 pm to 6 am.

Highway 1: Reservation Road: October 8

The right shoulder of the on ramp along northbound Highway 1 at Reservation Road will be closed for cleaning work from 10 am to 1 pm. Travelers may encounter a 10-minute delay.

State Route 68: Torero Drive & Portola Drive: August 6 – June 2026

There will be an early morning partial closure on westbound Portola Drive from 6 am to 9 am, Monday through Friday.

Westbound traffic will be blocked at the driveway of Toro Elementary School, between the intersections of Torero Drive and Portola Drive, and Davenrich Street and Portola Drive. Vehicles will not be able to enter Highway 68 from Torero Drive at 9:00 am; the road will reopen to regular traffic. The weekday partial closures will continue through June 2026.

The Toro Park Cut Through Traffic Pilot Project is designed to re-route traffic that diverts from Reservation Road and Highway 68 into Serra Village and Toro Park during commute hours to avoid traffic congestion on Highway 68. The project is also designed to address safety concerns and congestion in the residential Toro Park communities, inundated with aggressive drivers who take Portola Drive as an alternate route and speed through a school zone to re-enter Highway 68 at Torero Drive.

State Route 68: State Route 218 (Canyon Del Rey Boulevard) – Ragsdale Drive: October 7

There will be one lane and  shoulder closure along eastbound State Route 68 between State Route 218 (Canyon Del Rey Boulevard) and Ragsdale Drive for utility  work from 9 am to 3 pm.

State Route 68: Postmile 7.50  – Postmile 7.80: October 7

There will be one lane and  shoulder closure along eastbound State Route 68 between Postmile 7.50 and Postmile 7.80 for utility  work from 9 am to 3 pm.

State Route 68: Postmile 9.20  – Postmile 9.30: October 7

There will be one lane and  shoulder closure along eastbound State Route 68 between Postmile 9.20 and Postmile 9.30 for utility  work from 9 am to 3 pm.

State Route 68: Postmile 10.40  – Postmile 10.60: October 7

There will be one lane and  shoulder closure along eastbound State Route 68 between Postmile 10.40 and Postmile 10.60  for utility  work from 9 am to 3 pm.

State Route 218: Roberts Avenue: October 6 – October 10  

There will be one lane closure along westbound State Route 218 between Roberts Avenue and Route 1 for utility work from 9 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.

State Route 183: Preston  Street – Sanchez  Street: October 6 – October 10

There will be alternating lane closures along northbound and southbound State Route 183 between Preston Street and Sancez Street for utility work from 9 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter 5-minute delays.

State Route 218: Roberts Avenue: October 6 – October 10  

There will be one lane closure along westbound State Route 218 between Roberts Avenue and Route 1 for utility work from 9 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.

State Route 218: Del Rey Gardens Drive – Pheasant Ridge Road: October 6

The right shoulder along westbound State Route 218 between Del Rey Gardens Drive and Pheasant Ridge Road  will be closed for utility work from 8 am to 4 pm.

State Route 218: Francis Avenue – Marin Street/Willams Avenue: October 9 – October 10

One lane closure will occur along eastbound State Route 218 between Francis Avenue and Marin Street/Willams Avenue for utility work from 10 pm to 5 am. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.

Highway 101: Crazy Horse Canyon Road – Dunbarton Road (North): October 5 – October 10   

There will be lane, median, and shoulder closures along northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Crazy Horse Canyon Road and Dunbarton Road (North) for drainage work from 7 pm to 5 am. Travelers may encounter a 20-minute delay.

Highway 101: West Laurel Drive: October 5 – October 10  

There will be full closure of the on and off ramps along northbound and southbound Highway 101 at West Laurel Drive for asphalt paving work from 8 pm to 5 am 2 pm. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.

Highway 101: Boronda Road – San Juan Road: October 5 – October 11

There will be alternating lane closures and ramp closures along northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Boronda Road and San Juan Road for drainage, striping, and other miscellaneous work from 7 pm to 6 am. Travelers may encounter a 20-minute delay.

Highway 101: Camp Roberts Rest Area – North Bradley : October 7 – October 9

There will be one lane, median and shoulder closure along northbound Highway 101 between the Camp Roberts Rest Area and North Bradley for core drilling work from 9 am to 5 pm. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.

Salinas: South Sanborn Road: October 1  – October 15

A temporary lane closure will occur along South Sanborn near the  northbound Highway 101 off-ramp, for routine culvert maintenance form 7 pm to 5 am. Travelers may encounter a delay.

Marina: Del Monte Boulevard from Palm Avenue to Reindollar Avenue

One southbound lane of Del Monte Boulevard between Palm Avenue and Reindollar Avenue in Marina will be closed until late November 2025 for construction of the MST SURF project.

Carmel Valley Road and Laureles Grade Roundabout: Carmel Valley Road at Laureles Grade: Long-Term

Construction of the  Carmel Valley and Laureles Grade Roundabout has begun. Construction activities include  the installation of temporary concrete barriers at the approaches to the intersection, temporary traffic controls, such as lane closures. Work hours are weekdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

During construction, commuters will experience roadway delays. Elkhorn Road Rehabilitation Project: North of Walker Valley Rd.– Salinas Rd.: July – October

Traffic controls will be in place along Elkhorn Road between north of Walker Valley Road (postmile 1.9) and Salinas Road (postmile 8.0) for pavement rehabilitation work from 7 am – 5 pm. Occasional night work will occur between 7 pm and 5 am. The public is advised to use an alternate route.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution in the construction zone and to follow all posted signage and flagger instructions for the safety of both workers and the public.

The Elkhorn Slough National Research Reserve is open to visitors and can be accessed through the southern portion of the closure located at the intersection of Elkhorn Road and Walker Valley Road.

Laurel Road: Davis Road – Bardin Way: September  –  December

The City of Salinas will conduct roadway (demolition, paving, striping, and pavement marking) improvements on Laurel Rd from Davis to Constitution & Wiren Rd, Sky Pl, Green St, Cortez St, Acosta St & Bardin Way.

Daytime work hours are 8:30 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday. Nighttime  work hours are 6 pm to 7 am, Sunday-Thursday.

During work hours, access to driveways and/or streets may be limited, and delays may be experienced. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

All work zones will be secured at the end of each shift for  safety. During non-working hours, the road will be open to two-way traffic. Please respect No Parking signs and barricades as parking will be limited in the work zones. Please follow signs indicating any changes or detours for vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic.

Marina: Imjin Parkway

The roundabouts on Imjin Parkway are open. The  roadway configuration is  ONE lane in each direction, and all  roundabouts (Imjin Road, Marina Heights Drive, Abrams Drive, and Preston Drive) will be a SINGE LANE configuration during the duration of the construction.

PLEASE BE ALERT!

Recommended speed through roundabouts (during construction) is 15 MPH.

The enforceable speed limit through the construction zone is 25 MPH.

Traffic Control is in place for your safety!

·       Imjin Parkway to Reservation Road-double right turn has been reduced to one lane.

·       Access to the Shell gas station shall remain, as it is, from Imjin Parkway or from Abrams.

Activities

Detour signs will be in place to guide traffic onto alternate routes. A signed alternate route for Blanco Road “westbound” (toward Monterey) traffic approaching Reservation Road is posted. This alternate route will begin at the signal with Research Drive through the UC-MBEST property (between Blanco Road and Imjin Parkway) using Research Drive and University.

Truck Detour

  • A truck detour is implemented for trucks over 45’. No trucks over 45’ on Imjin Parkway between Reservation Road and Abrams Drive. Signage will be up alerting trucks over 45’ about the detour along Inter-Garrison Road, Abrams Drive and Reservation Road.

Emergency vehicles will always have access. Visit the project website at www.imjinparkway.com for the most current information or to view the live camera feeds for traffic conditions.

Monterey County Road Closures:

There are short-term and long-term road closures in Monterey County due to poor road conditions and debris on the roadways. Highway 1 remains closed 40 miles south of Carmel due to the Regent’s Slide. Highway 1 at Regent’s Slide is expected to reopen to through traffic by the end of March 2026.
