New rail service in Monterey County will help residents get to jobs, health care, shopping, and other travel opportunities conveniently, safely and cheaply, while avoiding traffic jams.
The Transportation Agency for Monterey County is working to bring rail service to Monterey County, so that residents can travel to jobs, health services and entertainment. The rail program includes local commuter service options as well as greater regional access. Trains will also be a popular choice for visitors to our county, helping to ease traffic during the busiest summer months.
Rail projects are an important component of the regional transportation network that will enhance mobility opportunities for our diverse population and lead to economic vitality for the region. The Transportation Agency is planning two rail services for Monterey County: extension of rail service to Monterey County and passenger service to & from the Monterey Peninsula. TAMC’s two rail projects complement one another and both will result in removing auto trips from highways 1, 101 and 156.
